Enjoy fabulous views from Diskit Gompa, the oldest and largest Buddhist monastery in the Nubra Valley. This complex features a huge prayer hall housing a statue of crowned Maitreya Buddha. Founded in the 14th century, the monastery has a cupola identical to Tashi Lhunpo Monastery in Tibet. Painted in bright colors, another big statue of Maitreya Buddha stands on a hill just below the monastery, facing the Shyok River towards Pakistan.     the mysteries of the east, expressed in this place, the vastness of the landscape, the mysteries of religion, constitute a dreamlike setting, which cannot be more impressive.  more »

    So this entire monastery is situated on a hill and the elevation provides a beatiful view from the top and its a great place to snap some great pics although it snot allowed to wear shoes inside and.....  more »

    The place see seen on the horizon & as you go near you realize how big the statue it sits on a small hill surrounded by mountains. A small ghat kinda section leads you there. Once on the TOP its breath taking view on the valley. The statue itself is great to look at, a sense of calmness takes over & one automatically surrenders to the nature around. I had travelled there in Jun 2018 on my motorcycle. The trust of Gompa have a small hotel too and its decent & even food is good.

    Amazing place. You will get the most peaceful experience here. The roads are well developed to reach there. Ample parking space. You can see the large statue from the distance as well. It's a paradise for the photographers. You can visit the nubra valley from here on. Must visit place in your Ladakh journey.
