Baba Harbhajan Singh Temple, Gangtok

4.4
Visit a holy place high up in the mountains at Baba Harbhajan Singh Temple, built to honor a 27-year-old soldier who died while posted close to the Sino-Indian border. Singh's death in 1968 has remained the subject of myth and spiritual belief: the official version suggests that he was killed during a skirmish on a mountain pass between Tibet and Sikkim, but others state that he perished in a glacier. Legend has it that he visited one of his colleagues in a dream and asked him to build a shrine here in his memory. The shrine has become a moving tribute and a place of pilgrimage, particularly for service personnel. • Baba Harbhajan Singh Temple is one of the most famous tourist spots of Gangtok. The place is pretty far from the main town. So you have to book a cab to visit it. The place is named after an Indian Soldier Harbhajan. There is a story behind it but I won't go into the details as of now. The entire place is protected by the Indian Army. The best part about the place is it's natural beauty. The scenery around it is extremely beautiful. From there you can also see a statue of Lord Shiva at a distance. If you visit Gangtok, you must visit this Temple along with Changu Lake. You can book the cabs for a one day trip at a reasonable price.
  • Baba Harbhajan Singh Temple is a place of faith for all religions and revered by the entire Sikkimese population. The Temple has been built by Indian Army to commemorate Baba Harbhajan who has bestowed his blessings on all the Army personnel posted to Sikkim. The Temple is very well maintained and also houses the symbolic room and office of Baba Harbhajan. The complex has been extended to included a war memorial, museum and a cafeteria. Overall, it was a blessed experience to have visited the temple.
