Tso Moriri, Ladakh

4.8
#4 of 27 in Nature in Ladakh
Visit a lake in a remote mountainous region of Ladakh and see the picturesque views of a secluded water haven unspoiled by civilization at Tso Moriri. The lake derives its water from springs and snow-melts from the mountains. It is the largest of the high altitude lakes in India at an altitude of 4.552m (14.836 ft). Go birdwatching with 34 species of birds, including the rare Great crested grebe, Brown-headed gull, and endangered Black-necked crane. See the small monastery following the Kagyu sect of Tibetan Buddhism. You can only access the lake in summer season, with a special permit from local traveling agencies.
