Nestled in the Kanchenjungha mountain range at an altitude of 5,425 m (17,800 ft), Gurudongmar Lake represents one of the highest freshwater lakes in the world. When you visit, take a moment to marvel at the surrounding snowcapped mountains towering over the blue icy water. During the winter, the lake freezes except for one spot, allegedly blessed by Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism. You'll need an official permit to visit this area, which lies close to the Chinese border. Remember that the lake's high altitude can cause breathing problems.     Feb 2021. Simply amazing. The beautiful, lake, at approx 17,000 ft, is worshipped by many. It's 2.5-3 hrs drive from Lachen Sikkim. The road is non existent, full of small boulders & potholes and it.....  more »
