The Mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi, Turkestan

Admire Persian miniature paintings and exquisite designs on façades of The Mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi, a World Heritage Site that's one of the largest and best-preserved architectural complexes of the Timurid period. An impressive turquoise dome, with ochre and blue patterns, makes this edifice a masterwork of architecture. Housing the tomb of the 12th century Sufi master, the complex was built from 1389 to 1405 by Tamerlane, whose death caused it to remain unfinished. Persian masters experimented with the style, which was later used in Samarkand. • All items have an explanation only in Kazakh language. The building is beautiful.
  • There are illegal scammers operating at the mausoleum who say it's illegal for you to photo but they can take a picture of you for a price. The security is also in on with the rude scammers. Not sure if administration has dealt with them.
