Escape the buzz of the Old Quarter and step into Bach Ma Temple, a place where people silently pray in front of a richly decorated statue of a white horse. Believed to be an incarnation of a river god, the apparition of the horse helped the emperor Ly Thai To choose a safe ground on which to build the city by marking it with its hoofs. The emperor erected the temple in the 11th century in gratitude to the white horse, but all the red pillars and ceilings covered in Chinese symbols date back to the 18th century. The temple is under serious renovation - a building site!! No information as to any completion date. It’s covered in so only possible to see vague resemblances of its possible glory. more »
A small but interesting temple dedicated to the spirit Bach Ma (White Horse) who helped the king in building the Hanoi Citadel. This temple is near Quan De Temple and the Hanoi Ancient House so you could these 3 places in less than 3 hours. Take note of the temple's lunch break which lasts until 2pm.
Impressive foreign culture. Simply very worth seeing for western tourists. The beer can pyramids as an offering in the shrine will be remembered.
